Capital tram tracks arrive

TRANSPORT chiefs in Edinburgh were due to take delivery of the first rails for the capital's tram network today.

The 18m-long steel tracks will start to be laid down on Leith Walk in January.

The city council said the process is likely to continue right up until May 2011– just two months before the new trams start running.

The 512 million project has suffered a series of blows in recent months, including news that the two senior officials in charge of the project are resigning and the shelving of a complete closure of Princes Street in the new year.
