Cancer survivors offer support
SURVIVORS of breast cancer in Edinburgh have come together to create a support group at the Western General Hospital.
The Reach for Recovery group will see patients offer support and advice to newly diagnosed women.
It is designed to help females come to terms with diagnosis and give them opportunities to talk about their fears.
Ten members have signed up to take part. They visit the hospital twice a week to offer compassion and support.
Co-ordinator Sylvia Ferguson, who was diagnosed with breast cancer 20 years ago, said: "When people are undergoing treatment for breast cancer they are very vulnerable and sometimes it helps to speak to someone who has been through the same thing.
"If I can help somebody to cope a bit better with what they are going through, then I feel like it is all worthwhile."
