Cameron sparks shortlists fury

CONSERVATIVE leader David Cameron urged Tory activists to accept the need for all-female shortlists yesterday as he sought to calm dissent in the ranks.

With the general election less than eight months away, emergency procedures will come in from January forcing local parties to choose from three or four centrally-picked hopefuls.

"It's my intention, if we continue as we are, that some of those will be all-women shortlists," Mr Cameron said.

Many Tories are strongly opposed to all-women shortlists and his announcement sparked fury among many activists.
