CalMac ferry time changes spark anger
CALEDONIAN Macbrayne has been criticised for timetable changes to the busiest ferry to the Hebrides.
Rising fuel prices have forced it to change the type of marine fuel used by the MV Isle of Lewis on the Ullapool-Stornoway route.
From January she will change to heavy oil, which will be delivered by road tankers to Ullapool from a depot in Dundee.
The ship will refuel at her afternoon arrival, but this will now take about 50 minutes to complete.
It means that, from the new year, the ferry will depart Ullapool at 6:15 pm daily on her second run, instead of 5:15pm.
Western Isles councillors are furious, saying CalMac had repeatedly insisted that it could not provide a later Saturday sailing in response to demands from the community.
