Call for promenade plan to spark off good design
A 17-kilometre promenade to be created along Edinburgh's waterfront should be the catalyst for good design in a regenerated Leith.
That is the view of influential environmental group Greener Leith, in its response to the council's draft consultation.
A lengthy stretch of path running from Cramond to Joppa is proposed, to be created by 2038.
Greener Leith welcomed the idea in principle, but stressed certain points had to be made before pressing ahead. It said the eight-metre-wide walkway should be the centrepiece of Forth Ports' regeneration of Leith Docks, which has a similar timescale.
A statement on Greener Leith's website read: "We hope some thought will be given to the uses the promenade will be put to, integrating the path with the wider regeneration of the area.
"Where the promenade passes through the mixed use areas, perhaps the path specifications need to be wider to allow for cafes to put chairs and tables out without impeding passers-by."
