Call for General Assembly to meet outside of Capital
A FORMER Edinburgh minister has urged the Assembly to meet outside the Capital.
The Very Rev Dr Andrew McLellan, a former Kirk Moderator and now Chief Inspector of Prisons, said: "I know there are enormous practical advantages in meeting in Edinburgh.
"But there might be symbolic, pastoral and evangelical possibilities awakened if the General Assembly were occasionally to meet, for example, in Glasgow or Aberdeen."
The Rev Bill Hewitt, convener of the assembly arrangements committee, promised to look at the matter, but he warned there were cost implications.
When the assembly moved to the Usher Hall for one year while the Scottish Parliament was meeting in the Assembly Hall, the bill was around 400,000, he said.
