Cairngorms picked to host bogie racing spectacular
TEAMS of racers in bogies, or carties, from across Britain will take part in a spectacular race of hairpin bends and gun-barrel straights in the Highlands.
The 24 teams taking part in the first Cairngorm Soapbox Extreme – from the ski centre to the snow gates two miles below – can expect to hit speeds of up to 50mph on the route.
The event, on 25 and 26 July, is organised by the Scottish Cartie Association (SCA), with funding from the Cairngorms Local Action Group Leader programme, and is the latest addition to the UK soapbox racing calendar.
SCA chairman Stephen Hall said: "We wanted to put on something really spectacular to catch people's imagination, and Cairn Gorm really is the ideal venue.
"You'll find carts built by blokes in sheds … right the way up to masterpieces built by professional race teams such as Lotus and Honda."
