Businesses fail in bid to boost tram works compensation
A BID to secure more compensation for businesses affected by the tram works has been rejected by council chiefs.
Traders in Leith Walk had gathered a petition calling on the council to provide more support for those who have been forced to endure disruption.
But in a letter sent to the organiser, the city's transport convener, Councillor Gordon Mackenzie, and economic development leader, Cllr Tom Buchanan, said there would be no new money.
The council chiefs said all businesses had been hit by the economic downturn, adding that utility diversion work being undertaken for the tram project would help to "future proof" Leith Walk against further disruption.
Sandra Majdoub, who runs furniture shop Royal Artizana, gathered around 250 signatures in support of more backing.
