Business case nears its end
THE business case for new maternity services in the Lothians is expected to be complete by the end of the year, it has emerged.
NHS Lothian revealed last year that, as a result of a mini baby boom, a new birthing centre would be created at the ERI while expansions would be made at St John's Hospital in Livingston.
Health chiefs said the new Little France unit would be primarily for those expecting straightforward births in a relaxing environment.
NHS Lothian's medical director Dr Charles Swainson said: "We need our maternity services to reflect this rising birth rate."
