Burns unit to get £145k fresh look
THE burns unit at the city's children's hospital will be upgraded after it received a £145,000 cash boost.
The Sick Kids Friends Foundation raised the money, which will drastically improve the department at the Sciennes hospital.
Toilets will be upgraded, while a disabled bathroom will also be installed.
The improvements have taken place on Ward Three.
Paulene Emsley, tissue viability nurse at the hospital, said: "The new facilities have made a real difference to patients.
"The treatment room and bath are now side-by-side making the process of changing dressings for burns patients quicker, easier and less stressful for patients.
"The whole ward has benefited from the refurbishment and I know the feedback from patients, their families and staff has been very positive."
The City Fire Fund contributed to the investment along with the SKFF, the hospital's official charity partner.
NHS Lothian is already upgrading other parts of the ward, including the creation of a new playroom and a makeover of the walls.
