Briton charged with Scot's murder in Australia

A BRITISH tourist has been charged with the murder of a Scottish man at a caravan park in Australia.

Alexander York, 31, from Essex, is accused of stabbing Rudi Boa, 27, from Culloden, near Inverness, on Friday night.

The incident occurred at Blowering Holiday Park in Tumut, New South Wales, about 250 miles south west of Sydney. The two men had been drinking when an argument broke out, said a Police spokeswoman. Mr Boa died at the scene after suffering stab wounds to his body.

Mr Boa had been travelling with his girlfirend, Jill Burns, also from Inverness. The couple were working as fruit pickers in the area.

Mr York appeared at Tumut Local Court today and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear in court again on 13 March

Jan Biddle, the owner of the caravan park, said the accused had been drinking since early morning.

She said: "I am so terribly sorry for the three families that are involved. It must be terrible, especially for Jill’s family as she is so far from home.

"Alex did not cause any trouble at the park before. He had been drinking from early in the morning.

"I want to extend my deepest sympathies to Jill’s, Rudi’s and Alex’s families because they will all be devastated by the incident."
