A 13-YEAR-OLD boy was charged with murder yesterday in connection with a fire in which a mother died.

The boy, along with two 15-year-olds, was also charged with theft.

The three, from Kilwinning, Ayrshire, appeared yesterday on petition at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

The 13-year-old faced one charge of murder and one charge of theft. The 15-year-olds each faced one charge of theft. The three made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody.

Angela Brown, 31, died after trying to rescue three of her children from a blaze at their home in Kilwinning on Sunday.

Ms Brown managed to get her younger child, a three-year-old girl, out of the building before going back in to try to save her two sons.

The three were pulled from the flat by firefighters, but Ms Brown later died in hospital.

Her sons, aged six and 12, are in a serious but stable condition at Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children. Her daughter is being cared for by relatives.

According to reports, Ms Brown had two older children. They had been staying with friends at the time.
