Boxing promoter held on attempted murder charge
BOXING promoter Barry Hughes was in custody last night after being charged with attempted murder.
Hughes, 30, of Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, was arrested by Strathclyde Police officers investigating the alleged stabbing of a 22-year-old man in a Glasgow nightclub.
Two other men, aged 30 and 27, have also been charged in connection with the incident at the city's Byblos club on 6 December. Strathclyde Police said that the men were expected to appear in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.
Hughes, Scotland's newest boxing promoter, fought professionally himself in the past, and manages a host of Scottish boxing talent.
However, the Glasgow businessman made his fortune outside the ring, through his security and promotional company Braveheart.
