Bosses give thumbs up to faster rail link

BUSINESS chiefs in Edinburgh have backed plans to cut rail journey times from the Capital.

High-speed rail links to Glasgow and London are at the heart of plans revealed earlier this week by the Scottish Executive.

Under the new National Transport Strategy, there are plans to reduce journey times to the English capital to three hours.

Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce deputy chief executive Graham Birse said: "Support for high-speed rail is welcome, not just in terms of faster journey times, but critically in growing the capacity of the rail network and giving Scotland direct access to the European high-speed network.

"This means any plans for Edinburgh-Glasgow, must be part of a wider strategy to connect to London."
