'Bored kids' vandalise Blears' car
IS IT a question of random vandalism or political vendetta? A car belonging to Hazel Blears, the former communities secretary, has been vandalised in what she described as a "pathetic and cowardly attack".
The windscreen of the Salford MP's Citroen Xsara Picasso was smashed and the tyres slashed as she canvassed for support on an estate in Weaste, part of her Greater Manchester constituency, early on Sunday evening.
Ms Blears, who was at the centre of the Commons expenses furore, blamed "kids on a hot afternoon with nothing better to do".
She was knocking on doors on the inner-city Weaste Estate shortly after 6pm when her car was attacked.
After reporting the attack to police, Ms Blears was given a lift home by a friend. She left her husband, Michael, at the scene to wait for the RAC.
Norman Eaton, 51, a constituent, said: "This is the people of Salford telling her that they do not accept what she has done."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said it was being investigated.
