Juventus join the race for Celtic striker Gary Hooper

ITALIAN giants Juventus, who could be paired with Celtic in tomorrow’s Champions League draw, have expressed an interest in bringing striker Gary Hooper to Turin.

Hooper, who has scored 64 goals for the Parkhead side since his move from Scunthorpe, could replace misfiring on-loan Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, who has failed to find the net this season, and has just returned to London for treatment on a thigh injury.

Juventus are seven points clear at the top of Serie A ahead of Inter Milan, but are keen to bolster their strikeforce, with attacking midfielder Sebastian Giovinco assuming a more advanced role in recent weeks to support Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella, who have scored 12 goals between them.

Hooper has been courted by Southampton for some time, with Liverpool and Newcastle joining the Englishman’s list of admirers in recent months, and has racked up 14 goals this season in all competitions, playing a pivotal role in Celtic’s European campaign so far.

The Parkhead striker could cost the Turin side around £6 million if they decide to try and bring him to Serie A.
