Book festival opens doors

The Edinburgh International Book Festival got under way this morning, with more than 700 events taking place over the next 16 days.

Six of the 12 authors long-listed for this year’s Booker Prize will appear during the festival, in Charlotte Square.

Former New York Times journalist Liza Klaussmann was first to appear for literature lovers ahead of her new novel’s release tomorrow.

Tonight, Tom Watson, the Labour MP who famously grilled Rupert Murdoch over phone hacking, will discuss his new book, Dial M for Murdoch.
