Bond girl dress goes under hammer

THE dress made famous by actress Olga Kurylenko in the latest James Bond film Quantum Of Solace was last night expected to fetch up to £4,000 at a charity auction.

The black Prada knee-length dress went under the hammer alongside the Gina shoes worn by Kurylenko in publicity stills for the film, in which she poses with actor Daniel Craig in a desert scene.

Scottish children's epilepsy charity the Muir Maxwell Trust was due to auction the iconic items, alongside a number of other pieces in a celebrity event at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Edinburgh. Among those expected to attend were entertainer Christopher Biggins and former newsreader Angela Rippon.

The items were donated to the charity by Quantum Of Solace producer Barbara Broccoli. The trust is aiming to raise 10m to launch Britain's first paediatric epilepsy assessment service and build a respite and care centre for children with the condition.

Also due to be auctioned at the event was the chance to train with triple gold Olympic medal winner Chris Hoy and a 20,000 diamond donated by Edinburgh jeweller Michael Laing. The menu for the evening was designed and prepared by Michelin starred chef Martin Wishart and his team.

Additional items for auction included a limited edition Omega watch in the same style as that worn by Craig, a dress by designer Jenny Packham and an Alberta Feretti gown.

Freelance stylist Lindsay Campbell said that while a Prada dress and Gina shoes would retail at a total of around 1000 it could fetch up to four times that at auction. She added: "Kurylenko has graced the covers of many magazines and this will make the dress a coveted piece. It is timeless and classic."

Edinburgh mother Ann Maxwell, who set up the charity because of her son Muir's epilepsy, said: "The onset of epilepsy in early childhood or infancy is most devastating."
