Bollywood stars show up at 'Slumdog' Indian premiere

SLUMDOG Millionaire has finally opened in India after receiving ten Oscar nominations.

Some are claiming the film, made by Trainspotting director Danny Boyle, is a mainstream breakthrough for Indian-made movies.

Slumdog has attracted criticism for focusing too much on poverty and deprivation.

But yesterday it was greeted with as much excitement as a major Bollywood hit.

A host of Bollywood stars attended the Mumbai premiere of the film, that tells the story of a slum dweller who competes on the Indian version of television quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

The film received the second highest number of Oscar nominations, with composer AR Rahman the first Indian to receive three nominations.

He said: "I'm at the top of the world. Everything is a blur.

"We are really, really emotional. All of us just can't stop hugging each other."
