Body found in Highlands in search for hillwalker

THE BODY of a woman has been found in the north-west Highlands during a search for a female hillwalker who had been reported missing in the area.

The body has not been formally idetified but police confirmed that the missing woman’s family were being kept informed.

The 54-year-old woman had been hiking at Glen Carron, in Torridon on Tuesday, but failed to return to her base in the afternoon and was reported missing around 4pm.

An RAF rescue helicopter and the Torridon Mountain Rescue Team conducted a search in the remaining hours of Tuesday before being suspended.

The search was resumed on Wednesday, along with support from the Stornoway Coastguard.
