Bob hops to raise cash for cancer charity

AN AMPUTEE doctor will visit an Edinburgh cancer centre as part of a fundraising event involving a week-long trip across Scotland.

Dr Bob Grant, who lost a leg in 2002 after battling cancer since the age of 14, is leading a Hop Across Scotland from the west coast to the east to raise money for the Maggie's Centre.

He will visit the centre at the Western General as part of his journey from Bowling in West Dunbartonshire to Kirkcaldy.

Dr Grant has already raised tens of thousands of pounds for the cancer respite and support facility, and is determined to add to this total.

The walk sets off on 17 September, eventually arriving in Edinburgh along the Forth and Clyde canal on 22 September.

Dr Grant will then go across the Forth Road Bridge to his Fife home.

"This time around I wanted to do something different from my previous fundraisers for Maggie's so organised my hop across Scotland," he said. "I'll be joined by friends and family, but would also like local walkers to join us."
