Blue badge holders back Bill
A GROUP of blue badge holders were due to demonstrate outside the Scottish Parliament today in support of a new law to enforce disabled parking spaces.
Around 85 per cent of disabled parking bays are currently only "advisory", which means anyone can park in them without the risk of being penalised.
But Labour backbencher Jackie Baillie has produced a Bill, being debated today, which would give them legal force.
Ms Baillie said almost 224,000 registered Blue Badge holders in Scotland would benefit.
She said: "This legislation is designed to make the lives of disabled people that bit easier. For far too long disabled people have had to rely on the courtesy of others not to park in disabled spaces, but I am determined to change that.
"If the parliament agrees to the general principles, it will send a strong signal to those who suffer that MSPs are on their side."
