Blood plasma link to vCJD

SCIENTISTS are expected to shortly confirm the first case of a person being infected with vCJD after receiving contaminated blood plasma.

A man with haemophilia was reported to have contracted the human form of mad cow disease but died of other causes. Thousands of haemophiliacs were given blood plasma – used to clot blood – before controls were introduced to stop vCJD.

The Health Protection Agency said: "We will be providing some information later this week on vCJD."
