Bloggers bring social media buzz to city library surgeries

TWO bloggers have organised a series of social media surgeries to help non-profit businesses and local community groups use online tools more effectively.

Multimedia journalist Tom Allan and Alistair Tibbitt, who runs the Greener Leith website, are set to run the free sessions across the city's libraries between January and March.

The events, called Edinbuzz, are designed to help people use websites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube effectively. An introductory evening will be held today from 7pm at Joseph Pearce's pub on Leith Walk.

Mr Allan said: "The aim of the surgeries is to take social media tools to community groups.

"Blogging, Twitter and Facebook are all great tools, which can be used to campaign, debate and raise issues with local politicians and decision-makers.

"We're really pleased to be working with Edinburgh city libraries on this pilot stage of the project."
