Blaze drama at ex-cinema in Capital
FIREFIGHTERS today battled a blaze which broke out at a former cinema and nightclub in Leith and left two security guards suffering smoke inhalation.
The fire spread to the first two floors of the three-storey derelict building in Great Junction Street, before being extinguished by firefighters just after 7am.
The fire at the former State Cinema, which was built in 1938 and has an art deco facade, was reported at around 4.30am.
The premises were relaunched as the Babylon nightclub in 2002 but shut less than two years later.
