Bird flu kills mother and her baby son

A CAMBODIAN mother and her 11-month-old son have died from bird flu after preparing and eating meat contaminated by the H5N1 virus.

The 19-year-old and her baby fell ill with a high fever and a cough two days after handling and consuming infected poultry during a visit to relatives in eastern Prey Veng province. She died on 12 February and her son five days later.
