Biomass plans
When news of the plan to site the biomass plant (your report, 9 April) amid the intended housing development of North Leith was revealed, it was stated that fuel would be imported from USA.
More than 40 years ago, with government support, a paper mill was built at Corpach, near Fort William, to turn the crop from the vast Forestry Commission forests then coming on-stream into paper. Since then the plant has been demolished.
Surely it would be better to use this site for the biomass plant, providing local employment, saving foreign currency and emissions from shipping.
