Bid to save drug-help centre
A CAMPAIGN to save a drug rehabilitation centre in Leith from closure has been launched.
The Links Project, on Links Place, is believed to be the only centre of its kind to offer residential drug rehabilitation and detox services.
But the centre's service provider, Glasgow-based social care organisation Turning Point, has pulled out of Edinburgh following a smaller allocation from the city council's health and social care budget than was expected. Campaigners are trying to drum up support to keep the service open and have set up a group, called Save The Links Project, on social-networking site Facebook.
Service users at the clinic have warned that closing it could cost lives among the Capital's 3500 drug users.
One campaigner said: "We may be fighting a losing battle, but we are determined to not let them go down without a fight."
