Beware of hidden sun says skin cancer expert
A SKIN cancer expert based in the Capital has warned that Scots are more vulnerable to the disease than they think.
Even without a holiday in the sun or prolonged sunbed sessions, dangerous rays are hitting more people's skin, according to Dr Lyndsey Myskow.
The number of Lothians residents contracting skin cancer has increased steadily over the years, making it now one of the more common cancers to develop.
And the private GP said: "The sun doesn't even need to be shining for these ultra violet rays to do their damage, nor do people have to be in a hot climate to be affected.
"There are plenty of UV rays in Scotland – for example, the power of the reflection of the sun coming off the surface of a loch or river can be immensely strong.
"Young children are very much at risk, and special care should be taken with them. Regular applications of high factor sun protection, covering up with T-shirts, hats and glasses and keeping out of the sun in the hottest part of the day are essential for everyone."
