with regard to the planned flotation of Royal Mail, John Maclean (Letters, 11 July) asks “if any utility or public service that has been privatised in recent years now gives a better service?”
May I suggest BT. I remember the days of GPO/Post office telephones when telecoms was a government monopoly – long waiting lists; poor investment; party lines and so on. The customer is so much better off today with competition and choice.
