Better and quicker fertility services is the goal of consultation

A MAJOR consultation project is set to take place to improve fertility treatment for patients across the Lothians.

The three-year project will seek the views of people who have both been through and are currently undergoing a range of procedures. The aim is to improve access to treatments such as IVF for people in Scotland and cut waiting times.

NHS Lothian will be one of the organisations involved in the scheme, which is being driven by the Infertility Network Scotland.

Public health minister Shona Robison said: "Scotland has a lot to be proud of when it comes to fertility treatment.

"We're unique in the UK in routinely offering three cycles of treatment, for example. Progress is also being made by many health boards in cutting waiting times for IVF, but there is more to do. There is great demand for fertility treatment and we know it can be very upsetting for patients to have to wait for treatment."
