BEST HORSE SONG Aside from hotels and food, no other category caught the imagination better than this homage to equine tunage. Paul Johnston kicked things off, namechecking, among others, Horse by Splodgenessabounds and Saddle Up by David Christie. Stuart Bathgate responded, citing Chestnut Mare by The Byrds, before Paul hit back pointing to Echo and the Bunnymen's Bring on the Dancing Horses among others.
BEST PLACE TO HIDE AN ELEPHANT: "In the room" quipped Robert Ritchie as he launched an off-the-wall look at the optimum pachyderm concealment location. Other suggestions included Perth Railway Station, Loch Ness, the rather psychedelic Pink Elephant Tree and, somewhat obviously, an elephant herd.
BEST PLACE TO SPEND A PENNY: Steve Johnston's popular proposals on the perfect places to pee included the award-winning (the public loos next to Broughty Ferry Library); the luxury (Gleneagles Hotel) and the hi-tech (the Clachan of Campsie).
BEST IRVINE WELSH RADGE: Naturally, Francis Begbie came top in this hilarious compendium of loose cannons and nutters from the pages of Leith's favourite novelist. The Trainspotting and Porno character was found to be much more mental than the corrupt cop Bruce Robertson from Filth, Danny Skinner from Bedroom Secrets of the Master-chefs, Larry from The Acid House and John Strang from Marabou Stork Nightmares, ya radge.
BEST SMALL SCOTTISH FOOTBALL GROUND You could virtually smell the pie and Bovril coming off the page as you read Jim Wilson's warm tribute to the lesser-known haunts of Scottish sport. Arbroath's Gayfield came out on top, but not far behind was Brechin's Glebe Park, Stair Park, home of Stranraer, and Station Park, where Forfar ply their trade. Albion Rovers' Cliftonhill stadium in Coatbridge came in fifth.
