Belhaven to keep brewing in Scotland
BELHAVEN chiefs have moved to calm fears over the future of one of the country's oldest breweries, saying the firm was committed to brewing beer in Scotland.
Fears were raised on Tuesdsay as unions denounced Belhaven's decision of to close its bottling plant and move bottling operations to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The brewery, taken over by Suffolk-based Greene King Group in a 187 million deal last year, has said it will close the bottling facility at the Dunbar brewery in January, with the possible loss of 20 jobs. Belhaven has been brewing in Dunbar for more than 300 years and employs about 170 people.
Last night, brewery boss Euan Venters said Greene King was committed to retaining Belhaven as a Scottish business.
