BARRHEAD Travel is pumping £800,000 into its apprenticeship scheme to create 50 jobs throughout Scotland and the north of England.

The agency, which took on 45 apprentices last year, will create the roles over the next six months.

Chief executive Sharon Munro – whose father, Bill, founded the business in 1975 – said that her company would offer “personalised training”.

In May, Barrhead Travel unveiled a £300,000 plan to open further branches in Carlisle, Dumbarton, Dumfries, Glasgow, Greenock and Inverness. The firm already employs nearly 700 staff spread throughout 45 branches.

In December, Barrhead bought cruise agency The Holiday Specialists for
£3 million, a deal expected to boost sales by 22 per cent to more than £200m.
