Barrett presents petition calling for more disabled work help
A LOCAL MP is backing a campaign to improve the opportunities of people out of work because of disability.
Edinburgh West MP John Barrett presented a 3500-signature petition at 10 Downing Street on Friday, calling for a 5 rise in the weekly earnings limit of those on incapacity benefits, to 25.
The initiative is part of the Giveme5 campaign, which aims to make it easier for people on benefits to return to work.
Mr Barrett said: "I'm delighted to join with The Richmond Fellowship Scotland in presenting this petition to 10 Downing Street and calling for the aims of the Giveme5 campaign to be met."
The presentation marks the end of the campaign which began at the Scottish Parliament in November 2006. Since then, campaign workers have encouraged individuals and voluntary organisations throughout the UK to sign the petition.
