Backing for 'Big Society'
KIRK Moderator the Rt Rev John Christie has called for churches and charities to join with government in the creation of a "Big Society" focused on poverty and homelessness.
Addressing MPs during his annual week-long visit to London, the Moderator said Prime Minister David Cameron's idea of a Big Society was not new.
He said: "The Christian Church has been working to create a Big Society for 2000 years."
And he said the Church of Scotland was well placed to contribute.
He said: "It is my belief that the coalition allows a unique opportunity to explore the possibilities of doing things differently."
