Under-19s unable to break down Whitehill defence

Whitehill WELFARE recorded their third straight pre-season shutout after battling to a goalless draw against Darren Murray's young Hearts team at Ferguson Park.

Chances were few and far between, but the game provided an excellent workout for both sets of players on a pitch which was in perfect condition despite heavy rain in the morning.

Whitehill had the ball in the back of the net early on but the flag had been correctly raised for offside.

David Smith had Hearts' clearest chance of the first half, but turned awkwardly after receiving the ball in the middle of the Welfare box and dragged his shot wide of the target.

The home side looked the likelier to break the deadlock as the second half got under way, and shortly after the restart Steven Manson did well to win the ball inside the Hearts half but pulled his 25-yard shot wide.

Whitehill's defence looked solid throughout the second half and restricted Hearts to a Callum Patterson header which missed from close range.
