Axing ferry 'poses serious threat to Scots economy'
TRANSPORT leaders have said the end of a passenger ferry service between Rosyth and Zeebrugge will have "serious economic consequences".
DFDS - which recently took over operator Norfolkline - said the service would end in December after failing to attract enough passengers.
Regional transport body SEStran said it was "deeply disappointed" at the end of the service.
Councillor Russell Imrie, chairman of SEStran, said: "It would be hard to over- emphasize SEStran's disappointment with this decision.
"We believe that a direct passenger ferry link between south-east Scotland and Europe is vital to the development of the region."
He added: "The proposed increase to freight services is a welcome move, but the loss of our only direct passenger ferry link is a heavy blow, which will have serious consequences for tourism and the regional economy."
