Award to honour city scientist
AN award has been launched to commemorate "forgotten" Edinburgh scientist James Clerk Maxwell and reward scientists in the field of electronics.
Maxwell's discoveries paved the way for hundreds of modern inventions, including the mobile phone, television and X-rays.
The award has been launched by the Royal Society of Edinburgh in conjunction with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and city company Wolfson Microelectronics. Royal Society of Edinburgh president Sir Michael Atiyah said: "Maxwell ranks with Einstein as one of the founders of modern physics and deserves much greater recognition in Scotland."
The competition carries a prize of 10,700.
Wolfson chief executive David Milne said: "It is essential that we encourage and reward the best international work in electronics."
