Welcome: David Lee
LOTS of little announcements to make today – but first, two apologies. I am not quite sure why I referred to St Clement's Church in Rodel, Harris, as St Columba's last week – especially as the web address had "stclements" in it. D'oh! Clearly a Homer Simpson moment. (thanks to those of you who responded to my "Best of the Outer Hebrides" last week – more recommendations from you all in the coming weeks).
Secondly, I never said sorry for including The Tapas Tree in Forth Street, Edinburgh, in our Best Taste of Spain piece on 25 June. It has closed – but as I went there several times with my family and always found the staff lovely and the food great, I'd be very grateful if anyone could tell me why.
Now to some housekeeping issues. Going back to July and the museum special, the winner of a meal for two at the Tower Restaurant on the top floor of the museum complex in Chambers Street, Edinburgh is Julie Christiansen of Falkland, Fife. The winner of bed and breakfast for two at the Holiday Inn, offered last week, is David Perrie, of East Kilbride. Congratulations.
I would also like to thank Mr Harold R Weaver of Edinburgh, who did not enter the competition, but felt compelled to write in to say: "I refer to the back page of Recommends and the best conference centre with a view. How such a dull, drear (sic) panorama could be described as spectacular or breathtaking, I do not know. If this is seen by intending visitors to the city, what must they think? What utter tripe!" This is an edited version of a long and angry letter and I thank Mr Weaver for his passionate response, which brought to mind the letters of Mr Thomas Murray of Perth and his obsession with the points of the compass. More outrage, please. I like it.
