Students get literary gem

THOUSANDS of city students are to be given a copy of a book which claimed a major literary prize.

You and I, by acclaimed American novelist Padgett Powell, won the fiction honour at this year’s James Tait Black Prizes, Britain’s oldest literary awards.

More than 5000 new undergraduates at Edinburgh University will receive a copy.

Professor Dorothy Miell, head of the university’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, said: “We hope students enjoy reading this commendable work of literature.”
