Profile: Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle attracts around 1.2 million visitors every year and is Scotland's top paid-for attraction.
It recorded its best August in four years and the best September on record last year, with visitor numbers increasing by 12 per cent over the month.
However, more recently, its visitor numbers were dented by the heavy winter snow, which forced the Castle to close its doors.
There is currently a 16m project under way to replace the esplanade grandstands, due to be completed this summer, ahead of the start of the Tattoo.
The new stands will offer more leg room for spectators, improved disabled access, and better rest areas for performers.
