Hot ticket: 30,000 fans expected

A major feature of Scotland’s cultural calendar, organisers of Piping Live!, which includes the World Pipe Band Championships, expect in excess of 30,000 people to make their way to Glasgow Green between tomorrow and next Sunday.

Such is the reputation of the event, that tickets for the top competitions in which the instrument’s elite bands compete sold out in just two months this year – half the usual time.

More than 150 ticketed and free events are taking place throughout the city from 6-12 August, including concerts, ceilidhs and competitions.

The climax of the week is on Saturday, when the top bands from across the globe compete for the much-coveted title of world champion.

About three-quarters of those attending come from outwith Glasgow, with more than a quarter coming from overseas, injecting more than £12 million into the Scottish economy.
