Artists chase £1,000 prize at festival
THE annual Edinburgh People's Festival kicks off tomorrow with a fine arts competition that will offer artists the chance to win £1,000.
The prize money is up for grabs at the North Edinburgh Arts Centre, in Muirhouse, in the first of a series of events taking place across the city in August.
Other activities, headed under this year's theme "Let the people speak" include a concert in Saughton Prison, visits to landmarks made famous in Ian Rankin's Rebus novels and an award-winning exhibition.
Chairman Colin Fox said the festival, which takes place between 5 and 29 August, would include a record number of events.
He said: "This year we host attractions throughout the month of August for the very first time."
