Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay to headline T in the Park

COLDPLAY and the Arctic Monkeys were today named as the final headliners to be announced for this year's T in the Park music festival.

The two English bands will headline Scotland's biggest music event at Balado near Kinross along with US rockers the Foo Fighters.

Britpop favourites Pulp and veteran soul singer Tom Jones were also among the raft of names revealed at the official launch in Glasgow today.

The festival, which normally attracts around 85,000 fans to the rural setting each year, will also see performances from Brit award winner Tinie Tempah, Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye and Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said he was "proud" of this year's line-up.

"I'm really pleased with our artist announcements and proud to deliver a whole host of bands including many that T in the Park fans told us they wanted to see when we surveyed them post event," he said.

"We're delighted that T in the Park is the festival that bands want to play at and music lovers want to be at. I can't wait to open up the campsite gates in July and welcome back the T in the Park community – bring on Balado 2011!""

As usual, it's a diverse billing, from the teen-oriented pop of The Script and My Chemical Romance to the more alternative acts such as Eels and Bright Eyes.

There was a distinctly retro feel to today's announcement, with several ageing British guitar bands making a return to Balado. Most notable among these is Pulp, who played the 1996 instalment of T in the Park at its original location at Strathclyde Country Park, as well as the reformed Cast and Ocean Colour Scene.

It is the second time that Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys have headlined the event after their bill-topping sets in 2003, 2005 and 2007 respectively.

The 2011 festival takes place between Friday 7 and Sunday 10 July, and tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am.
