Appeal for new blood donors

A RECORD number of transplants took place in Scotland last year – but more donors are now needed than ever, a charity has said.

The NHS blood and transplant service said that three people in the UK die every day because of a donor shortage for a range of organs.

This was in spite of the fact that record numbers of transplants now take place in Scotland.

The service's chief executive Lynda Hamlyn said: "With more than 10,000 people now needing an organ transplant in the UK, we're asking people to talk about donation with their families and confirm their wishes by joining the register."
