Appeal as 'obese' children go to care

A DUNDEE couple have had two of their children taken into care because they are obese.

The family – who were warned last year that three of their children had to lose weight – have six children, aged three to 13, and another baby due. The oldest child weighs 16 stone.

Now, the two youngest children are living with foster carers, and the unborn baby is on an at-risk register.

The couple, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have launched an appeal against the decision.

They claim that they have tried to co-operate with social workers, who demanded that the children went to sports classes and learned to curb their eating.

The family's lawyer, Katie Price, said they felt "victimised".

"This whole case has been dreadful," she said. "Neither of these parents takes drink or drugs. They have a big, happy, noisy family which is prone to being overweight."
