Aoife makes point to win Pencil award
BONALY Primary School pupil, 11-year-old Aoife Forbes was crowned the first ever winner of the Green Pencil Award for her creative writing.
Young writers were honoured at a grand ceremony at the Central Reference Library in Edinburgh on Friday.
Aoife beat off competition from more than 900 other children who submitted creative writing on a "green" or environmental theme.
Aoife wrote a haunting piece, Antarctic Waste, on the devastating effects of global warning.
She said: "I think this competition was a great chance for young people to write about really important environmental issues."
