Anti-crime hub enters next phase

THE next phase of building work at Scotland's first "crime super campus" was announced yesterday.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has confirmed the contract for work at the Scottish Crime Campus at Gartcosh in Lanarkshire has gone to John Graham (Dromore).

Work will begin in the new year.

The campus will house bodies including the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, the Serious Organised Crime Agency, the Crown Office and HM Revenue and Customs.

Work began in June on the first part of the 82 million project, which is being carried out in three phases.

The second phase - covering the design and build of the core and shell - will start in February and is due for completion in 2012. The campus is expected to be fully operational in 2013.

Mr MacAskill said: "The Scottish Crime Campus at Gartcosh should strike fear into the gangsters who brings misery to communities right across Scotland."
