Anne applauds charity's animal health work

PRINCESS Anne has praised charity workers in the Lothians combating diseases in livestock and other animals.

She congratulated researchers at the Moredun Foundation in Penicuik for their animal health work at an event attended by more than 100 guests yesterday. The event highlighted the foundation's involvement in researching the squirrelpox virus and causes of death in whales, dolphins and seals round Scotland's coastline.

Chief executive Professor Julie Fitzpatrick said: "Although it is internationally renowned for its research in the infectious diseases of livestock, many people are unaware that Moredun also contributes significantly to help protect wildlife like red squirrels, deer, grouse as well as a variety of sea mammals in Scotland."
